The world is a spec
Inspired by a youtube video I reposted a few days ago (Video: Prompt engineering is dead), I have started looking at things in a new way.
The concept is simple, but putting it in focus is helpful:
In the world of AI, everything is going to be a specification, and everything can be executed from these specs.
Specs will be written by skilled humans, together with AI, and they will then be implemented by AI supervised by skilled humans. Refinement cycles will be faster than before too, leading to better results.
The programmer’s job will be very much like any other job: write the specs with AI, execute the specs with AI. The better you are technically and with words, the better the specs, the better the execution.
So probably what really changes is that people have to be good with words as well as with code, or rather, they have to be better with words than with code. But the specific domain skills are not going away for excellent results.
However, even with less-than-excellent skills but with good thought structure and good ability to express oneself, good results will be achieved, and more of them.
